SAVING COSTS ON THE BENTLEY.

I received your memo. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/KW.20.8.36. and regret there has been some delay in the costing of the modified Bentley Exhaust System, Standardisation Sheet X.223.

At the same time we would point out that this is very exceptional and generally speaking it must be agreed that the Works give every support in connection with the costs for Standardisation purposes.

Whilst we agree this particular case has taken too long the following facts will clear the issue.

Sta.Sheet X.No.223. Modified Bentley Exhaust System.

Date shown on Std. Sheet. 6.6.36.

Date received. 9.6.36.

Memo.sent to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} requesting list of details effected. 10.6.36.

Reply from BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} memo.ref.BY/Mtn11/N3.7.36. 3.7.36.

All drawings obtained and operations attached ready for estimating. 14.7.36.

Estimates completed by Eff.Dept.Saturday 15.8.36.

Copies typed and Std.Sheet sent through Monday. 17.8.36.

The members of the Efficiency Department responsible for this particular job were on holiday at various times during this period and we are afraid this, in the main, is the explanation for the delay. At the same time we would state during the time we received this particular Standardisation Sheet we were also dealing with 18 other similar jobs.
