IMPROVED DASHBOARD B.5, B.50 and SILVER WRAITH.

WYFLAN -

A design issued by Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/JD.{J. Draper - Frames} has been made for a revised dashboard of the sheet steel type, which will need to be instructed for 9.B.5 and 2.B.50.

The subsequent bodies already instructed have been made to suit an improved design of dashboard PD.309 herewith, and the chassis should be instructed accordingly i.e. (10-B-5, 11-B-5, 12-B-5, 14-B-5, 3.B.50 and 30.G.7).

The benefits of the new proposal are :-

(1). The 'Z' section of the dash legs have been deleted.

(2). The fixings to the frame are almost rigid vertically and transversely.

(3). Only one silent-travel bush per side is needed.

(4). The fixing is as far forward as conveniently possible.

To mount the body it will be necessary to rock the steering column down about a foot. With the present mounting of the steering box this can be done only by disconnecting it from the frame. For this and reasons of rigidity we would prefer to revert to the original design of trunnion mounting, if it could be made cheaply.

On PD.315 also herewith, we shew the design of the Silent-Travel dash fixing.

We have arranged that Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/JD.{J. Draper - Frames} will set out the arrangement of units on the dash, and the necessary finger grooves for stiffening.

A modified fixing for the bonnet rest plates for the Rover Type Bonnet of B.5 and B.50 already done will be needed, and corresponding modifications to the bonnet top hinge and side plates. So far no such features have been done for Silver Wraith 80 (30.G.7) or 11-B-5, the latter having a B.38 chassis.

The chassis of 14.B.5. the Continental Bentley need be fitted with a dashboard only. The bonnet, radiator and bonnet rest plates will all be of a special design in accordance with M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Paulin's scheme.
