To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation} 1044 Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/SW.14.12.41. B.60 Engines. It will be remembered that at a recent Car conference, it was agreed that we should have at least one Prototype of all the six-cylinder engines which it is proposed to produce after the War. At the moment all the high power six-cylinder engines which we are running are 3 1/2" bore. We do not think it is necessary to run any of the smaller sizes, because we have plenty of experience on 3" bore engines dating to the old 20 H.P. days. We do, however, think that it is vitally important that we should run the largest engine in the series, i.e., 3 3/4" bore, because this introduces a feature which is new to us, i.e., there is no water between the cylinder barrels. Castings are available and the parts which we require to build the engine are really confined to the head and block, as we will use all the other pieces from one of the existing high power engines. All the drilling, valve seats etc., are common to the previous engine. We have the necessary pistons. We shall be very much obliged if you will see what you can do for us.
