C O P Y. XA950 GRAND HOTEL MIRAMONTI, CORTINA - DOLOMITI, ITALY. 27th. July 1927. (June) Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Dear Sirs, Chassis 117-MC. I have just got here on 117-MC. and am not too pleased with her performance. The points of complaint are as follows :- 1. The steering on Pari roads is dreadful, and after a run from Boulogne to Compiegne my right hand was blistered, owing to backlash. 2. I have travelled 1247 miles and have consumed 3 gallons of lubricating oil. I have had to change nine plugs since leaving England, and found them choked with soft carbon. The oil is evidently working past the Piston Rings and Nos. 3 and 6 Cylinders are the worst. 3. I found the batteries almost dry owing to having no switch to prevent the battery charging en route, and as the ignitions were seldom functioning separately on all cylinders I could not use battery ignition only; if I tried I found on switching on magneto that two or three cylinders were missing owing to oiled-up plugs. 4. The petrol tank filled is too small for Continntal petrol pumps which deliver very fast and I want a larger one fitted please. I propose to send the car to you when I get home (about 20th. July) for attention to these matters. I believe oiling up of plugs and excessive oil consumption has been a common fault with your early Phantom models, so you no doubt know how to cure it. I am sorry to have to complaint still further about my car, but I assure you the faults are P.T.O. | ||
