RE: LUBRICATION OF CYLINDERS.

In order to deal with engines the cylinders of which are giving trouble due to excessive lubrication, and the consequent oiling up of plugs, it has been agreed that the oil holes, in the inlet rockers only, should be plugged up. This must be carried out as instructed below.

It is not intended that this should be carried out indiscriminately, and must only be done after my sanction has been obtained for each particular chassis concerned. In these cases record must be made for future reference.

The holes at the valve end of the rockers are to be plugged up with aluminium, 3/16" dia. and should be such that the plug, approximately .300" long, can be tapped in with a light hammer, so that it is just below the surface of the surrounding steel, which can then be peaned over to prevent the plug coming out. This work can be carried out with the rockers and shafts in position, but it may be necessary to remove the high tension wiring tube temporarily.

As there may be some confusion regarding inlet and exhaust rockers, it should be noted that the position of the rockers starting from radiator end of the engine are in the following sequence.

The numbers of the rockers to be plugged are therefore, 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12.
