HOYTS METAL MAIN BEARINGS.

At the request of production two sets of Hoyts whitemetal lined main bearings have been fitted to our experimental units for trial.

These are almost identical to our normal whitemetal lined main bearings as used on Wraith lll production, with the exception that the shells are whitemetalled by Hoyts with metal of a similar analysis to our own, and are received back at the Works completely finished except for final reaming.

Regarding the first engine so fitted, this has run a total of 55 hours on the test bed, including 18 hours endurance at 4000 R.P.M. at an oil inlet temp. of 100°C. As seen from the attached photograph, they are in excellent condition.

The second set are in S.E.B.V. undergoing 15,000 miles in France, and the bearings are apparently continuing satisfactorily.

We anticipate that by the end of the month we shall have had the opportunity of examining them, and if satisfactory of releasing them for production.
