Copy of letter received from the S.U. Company. Ref. TCS/H/CC. 2nd September 1936. Dear Mr. Royce, Thanks for your letter of the 1st instant re complete failure of the pumps due to the trouble of the bakelite valves jamming in the wire holding clip. We have only one more case of this which occurred on a pump which I examined at your Works the week before last, and immediately on my return here, the modification was put in hand. The serial number of the pumps having the modification starts at R.B. 1566. I am not personally aware that there have been any discussions on this point, with the exception of the mention of it when your representative was at the Works last Wednesday, and the alteration was in hand at the time. You must be aware that we have turned out many thousands of these pumps with bakelite valves without any trouble in this respect, but we feel that there is a possibility of it happening although it is remote.
