We send you herewith drawing No.Lec.1586 shewing an improved ventilation for the Goshawk 11. gear box. This drawing cencels Lec.1566. On consideration of this matter Mr. Royce has come to the conclusion that an ordinary single vent will not get rid of the moisture which is troubling us in the gear box by rusting up the pieces of the change mechanism. He deems that some form of circulation, however small, is necessary. In Lec.1586 the gear box chamber is made to communicate with the clutch chamber and it is expected that the whirling of the air in the clutch chamber will cuase a current of air to pass out of the clutch chamber vent, and draw some air through the change speed box by means of the slider guides arranged as shewn.
