INDIA TYRE & RUBBER COMPANY (GREAT BRITAIN) LTD. TELEPHONES: PAISLEY 4141/5. INCHINNAN SCOTLAND TELEGRAMS: INDITYRE, RENFREW. LR{Mr Ellor}/DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions} FROM THE FACTORY'S SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE W.A.Robotham, Esq., Messrs. Rolls Royce Limited DERBY. Dear Robotham, I am very sorry to bother you, but a most unfortunate thing has happened, which I only discovered last night and it is, that all the Bentley Chassis at present at Park Ward Works are equipped with tyres marked "India Super Non/Skid Silent". Perhaps you may remember that this was the name, for want of a better one, which we moulded on the first few tyres we submitted to you for the purposes of test and approval. However, as soon as we had the pleasure of receiving from you the order for tyres as original equipment to the Bentley, it was mutually agreed that they should be called "India Speed Special". Just at that time you required thirty tyres and were kind enough to allow us to deliver these with the old name on them (see our letter marked for attention of Buying Department dated 28th July, 1933), as we could not get the new mould with the new name ready in time to give you urgent delivery. I am afraid that, through some misunderstanding, these had been fitted to the chassis which have left your Works. I have seen Major Cox about it at Conduit Street and he has most kindly promised to find out which chassis have the right tyres and which have not and I am arranging to have the tyres changed where necessary, as, of course, from your point of view you do not want the possibility of a car appearing with different named tyres and, from our point of view, as regards the possibility of the Press mentioning our tyres, we are most anxious that the tyres should have the correct name on them. These tyres are, of course, identical in PLEASE REPLY TO 30, St.John's Wood Road, N.W.8. [Handwritten notes:] [Top right:] T 4662 R.M.
