contd :- -2- points appear to be interdependent, and we see that if we were to agree that the rod was too long we might introduce a countershaft about half way, and do the stepping aside on this countershaft. The fixing on the engine foot would then be a simple bell crank lever, and the direction of the rod can be controlled by the up and down position of the countershaft. The fixing of the latter might simply be a cantilever off the frame side member as we have indicated in the sketch hereunder. We should like you to say whether you do not think in view of the above reasons, the scheme as originally drawn might not be used. If you still do not think so would you kindly send us some slight layout shewing your difficulties in running the rod through, when we will send you an alternative scheme.
