1020a WORKS TELEPHONE LYMINGTON 520 WORKS TELEGRAMS "WELLWORTHY" PRIVATE TELEPHONE LYMINGTON 232 MANAGING DIRECTOR'S OFFICE WELLWORTHY PISTON RINGS LTD., LYMINGTON HANTS JH/KES 13th November, 1939. W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham, Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited, DERBY. My dear Robotham, Thank you for your letter of the 9th instant. I agree that engineers generally are not very good at putting either themselves or their wares over, but what caused me to write to you was that Fedden seemed very definitely of the opinion that you had given him, as your view, that the new type of bearing was cheaper than A.C.9. which came rather as a shock to me and I thought I would like to have your views on the subject. If it turns out that this new bearing does give better results, then we have to face facts, but the trials we have had almost everywhere seem invariably to show that the A.C.9. is a real winner and I and my staff have quite a lot of confidence in it. I think you will probably find we shall get into a 'neutral country' like Napiers quicker than we shall get it into you or Bristol. You may be interested to know that Fords have been having a lot of trouble with their big ends on their V engines and Blackith was up their recently to see whether we could help them. They supplied us with drawings setting out limits for (a) Babbitt, (b) cadmium nickel and (c) lead bronze and apparently none of them has given them any real satisfaction. Therefore they are very seriously going to try out A.C.9 and we are making them up enough to run a considerable number of engines. I am sorry you cannot get down and have a day's shooting with us. Why not try and bring Mr. Hives with you and come down some Friday afternoon? You could go and see | ||
