R:R.{Sir Henry Royce} 235a (100 T) (S. G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 643, 19-2-20) G 2618 X. 3563. To BP from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Copy to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} " " EFC. DAL/CB2-6-20. X. 3563 - THE THERMOSTAT. -------------------- It is desired to standardise the thermostat as soon as possible. Mr Royce has agreed to the use of a rubber connection between the top water pipe and the thermostat body, and this has been tried out on a car. It is also recommended by the Experimental Dept., that the flange holding the thermostat body to the cylinder cover should be stiffened, and we have accordingly added bosses. The lock operating on the top nut on the same body, and also that on the bye-pass nut is thought to be unnecessary, and their deletion is recommended. The hole in the bye-pass valve is increased to .098 plus 10 dia. We send herewith two prints of "N" Scheme 371 shewing these modifications to the thermostat body, which it is proposed should be carried out before standardisation. On this same drawing is also shewn a suggestion for a rubber connection between the thermostat body and the bye-pass pipe, and on "N" Scheme 376, which also accompanies, it is suggested that a rubber connection should be made at the junction between the bye-pass pipe and the main suction pipe of the pump, so that the whole of the bye-pass pipe is held flexibly. We think that a model of this should be made before it is put into standardisation. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
