25/30 h.p. Trials Car GWN-2.

We are very much concerned with the noise which arises from the tyres on this car - which are of the latest pattern - after a mileage of approximately 4000. The noise unfortunately occurs at its worst at speeds between 20 and 30 m.p.h., when of course it is very undesirable. It also coincides with the resonance of the exhaust, so that at these slow speeds either in the London Parks or in any 30 m.p.h. limit area the car is quite spoiled for silence.

You would no doubt like to take up the question of the tyres with Dunlops, and if you wish you could have the tyres removed from GWN-2 as an example of what we are criticising. The car is away at the moment in the West of England, but will return in two or three days, when we shall be forced to change the tyres for new ones in order to get back to a reasonably silent degree of running. This of course is a very costly method of maintaining silence, and is what no doubt all our users will ultimately experience, with some detriment to our car's reputation.

As regards the exhaust, can we hope that you will have any modification to this exhaust system which will eliminate the resonant period at around 30 m.p.h. ?

This exhaust trouble is also very noticeable on the P.III's, at the speed at which one is compelled by law to drive so frequently nowadays, and we shall therefore hope to hear that you will have some means of eliminating this resonant period in both Rolls-Royce models.
