To Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} ~~c.c. to EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}~~ File 1044 Φ 1116 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH 1/9.4.40 B 40 Engine Crankshaft Sec 5010 Please receive herewith 4 blueprints of the following; RE 805 Fan Pulley(cast iron) - 1 off - replacing RE 215 (sheet metal). This has been detailed as requested by memo Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Ed{J. L. Edwards} 3/GH 29.3.40, to eliminate squeaks which are produced with a hand made sheet metal pulley. We have noted the remarks in Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Ed{J. L. Edwards}'s memo re the reduction in the amount of machining on a cast pulley, but have nevertheless issued the above machined all over. The reason for this is to save the pattern being scrapped if it is eventually found that a cast pulley must be machined all over. In the event of the p'tly machined pulley proving satisfactory, then surplus machining allowances can be removed from the pattern. For the purposes of tests on a partly machined pulley, we suggest that Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Ed{J. L. Edwards} obtains a rough casting, and has it machined to his own requirements. We have modified LOP RE 260 and locking plate RE 258 to suit the above by alteration 127/RE. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH. | ||
