The Peregrine car running in France has a non-turbulent head. It is therefore likely to require the greatest range of ignition control of anything we are likely to standardise. We found that one nothh on the quadrant represents approximately 1° on the flywheel. Our normal timing is 16° before top dead centre. Therefore the full range of be hand control brings us to about 12° after top dead centre which is ridiculously late. Furthermore the 4 or 5 notches causes such a sudden drop in power that one hardly dares to use the ignition hand control. We recommend that the leverages should be altered to give a more reasonable result.
