Weekend test report on vehicle 7.B.V. detailing performance, consumption and faults.

| 400a To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 2.1.39. Week-end Mileage on 7.B.V. Mileage 363. Petrol Consumption 15.7 m.p.g. Engine. Rough period at 3,000 r.p.m. seems new on this Engine. Starting from cold was good, but the engine runs very erratically on the starter carb., starter motor pinion crashed badly about the flywheel teeth on engagement, this happened half a dozen times. Gearbox. Second speed does not synchro-mesh, pedal movement will be checked. Suspension. Ride very good but rear hits buffer too easily. Petrol Tank. Gauge unit found to be set incorrectly, tank dry with 4 galls. showing on gauge. This will be attended to. Electrical. One horn failed, suspect faulty earth connection. 2 bulbs failed in the N.S. head lamp. Brakes. Excellent trouble. Steering Not up to 8.B.V. wanders at speeds, but light to handle. Ignition. Distributor to latest test bed requirements for ign. advance used in conjunction with pistons having 6.5 : 1 comp. ratio. On ethyl petrol, detonations were heard up to 850/900 r.p.m. these were quite passable. no further detonations up the scale. Tests are being continued with Shell and B.P.
