261.? March 19th.1938 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}1/AP. Paul Dykes Esq., The Loke House, West Road, CAMBRIDGE Dear Paul, Many thanks for your letter. I am afraid we cannot get over to Syston this afternoon, as your letter did not get to me until last night. With regard to the front end of your motor car, it is possible that the tyres are miles out of balance, but much more likely that either the front shock absorbers are empty, or that the governor box on the side of the gearbox is empty, or that dirt under one of the valves in the governor unit is preventing the pressure rising. If you have got enough energy, take up the floorboards and connect a 30 lbs. pressure gauge somewhere in thegovernor control pipe line, and then run the car with the back wheels jacked up. In the hard position pressure will be about 25 at any speed from 10 M.P.H., but in the soft position will slowly rise from nothing to 25 at about 80 M.P.H. When you get back from Austria I will fix up a week-end in Cambridge. Yours sincerely, | ||
