FILE. 7.1.37. WEIGHT OF CONTINENTAL P.III BRAKES. We have weighed the rear axle of the above and compared it to the weight of a standard rear axle. Each axle was ready to go on a car, and each had the same centre box. The Continental gears were lower ratio but the same weight. The Continental hubs were special, but no lighter than standard. The weight difference was 64 lbs. This is made up as follows :- STANDARD CONTINENTAL SAVING. Brake drum complete 49-51 35 say 30 Brake assembly " 40 25 30 Hand brake equalizer and two ropes. 3 - 3 TOTAL 63 WEIGHT UNACCOUNTED FOR 1 It must be remember that no drum is turned exactly to drawing on our Continental drums there is about 6 cub.ins. of aluminium more on the drums than the drawing calls for, made up of a layer .007" thick. + 4 lbs for front shoes in Aluminium Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/A.F.Martindale. | ||
