Accordingly, two representatives from each firm came to Derby on November 10th. and had a conference with Wheeler and Hl.

After sorting out the practical details of their difficulties, it was decided that a complete summary should be laid down by us, in order that all points should be covered -

It should be stated here that there are no difficulties in our own factory, in the production of A.C.9 bearings for our own requirements. Over 3,000 bearings have been produced with less than 1% scrap.

Accordingly a list of questions was compiled by the representatives at this meeting. These questions were as follows -

(1) Details of H.M. methods of manufacture. Composition of alloying elements etc. melting conditions.

(2) Exact chemical composition arrived at and results arrived at on production melts.

(3) What magnesium is lost on remelting and is this consistent?

(4) Hardness of production bearings.?
Variation of hardness in bearing?
What percent of bearings are hardness tested?
Position of hardness tests on bearings?

(5) Has segregation in actual bearings been checked?
How is normal analysis sample taken?

(6) What size of melt is produced?

(7) Heat treatment. What type of furnace used, and what temperatures, and time employed?

(8) What flux is used and how often.
