C O P Y. MAPLE HAYES, LICHFIELD. 3.7.23. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Sirs, Your Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}4/W30.6.23. Chassis 119-FW. I am glad to learn that you hope to have cured the piston trouble in 37-TB. Re 119-FW. There is no doubt that for some reason this engine is practically free from carbonising trouble. We keep a very accurate account of any work done upon my cars, such as changing lubricating oil, changing valves and stems, tyre changes, and in fact everything done to the cars. I myself examined the pistons of 119-FW the other day and saw that there was practically no carbon present, and scarcely any in the combustion chambers either. I closely cross-examined my drivers and examined their records and I have arrived at the definite conclusion that the car has done over 18,000 miles since decarbonising which is of course a remarkable record. This car has now done 27,000 miles since June 1920, and is running as well or better than new, entirely disproving the statement that the pre-war Rolls were better than the post-war cars. I shall not be home till after the Star (?) and Harrow Match next week, but I will then write you and shall be glad for you to inspect the car. Yours truly, (Signed) W.W. Worthington. | ||
