COPY. WELLWORTHY PISTON RINGS LTD. LYMINGTON, Hants. 28th June, 1938. JH/CJR. R.{Sir Henry Royce} B. Wilson. Esq., Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby. Dear Mr. Wilson, Further to my previous report on the subject of Bearings, I think perhaps I might as well report to you as to the way in which we are progressing with the job, and perhaps you will pass the information along to whoever is handling it. I believe that Mr. Robotham is now handling it from your end, but I have not had this officially and your Mr. Mathews has generally been in touch with our Mr. Blackith, but I understand from Mr. Devereux, who 'phoned me up this morning, that Mr. Robotham is handling it officially. However, perhaps you will let him know, and I will come along and see him. The position is at present we have 47 different jobs for which we are making patterns, dies, machine tools, jigs etc. for machining all these. We have already completed 35 Drawings and have got the jigs in the shop. We have made a considerable number of calls: we have scrapped all the A.C.6 experiments, which, if you will remember, it was originally agreed upon should be the standard, and three weeks ago we commenced making the bearings from the new A.C.9. We are keeping in close touch with H.D.A. on the castings we are producing. There has been a little difference of opinion between your specification and H.D.A. with regard to the hardness. I think the matter is now cleared up, however, because on one job that we all wanted to be particularly successful with, which was the Bristol job, we sent along samples for H.D.A. to check over, and they have told us that we should give them a further heat treatment. Apart from that we are making steady progress, but I think you will appreciate that with such a large number of enquiries and every-body wanting their job straight away, there are sure to be some complaints with regard to delay in delivery. | ||
