Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. SMM. c. Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} X196 EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}1/H11.3.24. re. Fan & Dynamo Belts. We are still having a considerable amount of trouble with fan and dynamo belts, and a lot of time and money is being spent in the Works in running these to try and obtain satisfactory results. We are also spending a lot of time on test in trying to obtain a satisfactory condition of these drives, which can only be obtained at present by a considerable amount of interchanging and fitting etc. Even then they do not seem to be reliable and remain quiet, and in customers' hands either suffer from noise or from slipping. We again bring forward, therefore, the necessity of some improved belt being used and adopted as soon as ever possible. We understand that experiments have been and are in hand with different type belts, and that some time ago you had prospects of recommending different types of belts. Is it possible that any further action can be taken in regard to this matter? If you are too busy to deal with this job we could take the opportunity of trying out different types of belts on such running cars as we have, i.e. 1-LW. There was a belt which we tried some time ago which we certainly felt was more satisfactory. It has done considerable running and it certainly is free from the objectionable features of the Whittle type belt. We still have this sample belt. ED.{J. L. Edwards} EP.{G.
