TO HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}) FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} C.c to BJ. WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} ORIGINAL re. E.A.C. 7. x740 It is understood that you consider the best way to improve the riding qualities is to push forward the above chassis, which we hope will shew this and many other smaller virtues. It is understood at WW. that you have instructions for the bulk of this chassis. Concerning the following items you are not expecting any further information from WW. - (1) Frame. (2) Cross members. (3) Front & back axles. (The lighter axle including the new side by side double brakes.) (4) Road Springs. (5) Petrol tank. (6) Lighter engine unit, with aluminium cylinders, and lighter flywheel. (The present engine, flywheel, and clutch, can be used at first to avoid delay.) (7) Gearbox. (Some small modifications are being made to the brake mechanism.) (8) Radiator and bonnet. (Except for damped pendulum lever cover.) (9) Dash. (10) Steering. (11) BY's adaption of our latest ignition controls. We realise that the chassis is waiting for:- Waiting for WW. (a) New bonnet catches on lines of 20HP. (b) Modifications to the sequence starter. (c) Arrangement of brake shafts between servo and back axle, but you have instructions of those parts which are carried on the back axle and on the servo. (d) Schemes for reducing the weight of some of the auxiliary features of the engine. As regards completing this chassis we hope to see it running next month with such parts as can be adapted from present standard to be used to prevent great delay in getting this chassis on the road. Most of them it will be noticed can be changed at any convenient later date. The most difficult to arrange for will be the sequence starter. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
