REAR WHEEL ARCHES. BENTLEY 11.A.

When the 6.5 x 17 tyres are fitted to Bentley 11, it is accepted that the wheel arch clearances are not adequate for extreme conditions of wheel movement. Bodies now built or building are not to be modified, but BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} wishes us to do something about bodies not yet built.

The chassis print should be altered to show the new tyre size and required minimum width of front and rear wings. If the new wheel has altered the track, this should also be shewn.

F.OD.216 herewith shews the clearances now obtained with existing rear arches and the old and new wheel.

We shall send a new drawing shewing the proposed new shape of the wheel arch, which it is believed will not alter the rear seat width. Would BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} with the aid of this drawing and the photos of the foul obtained from JLE.{J. Lee Evans - Chassis Test Manager} take the matter up with Hn.{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders} and the coachbuilders to ensure that this is understood.

A note should be added to the chassis print saying that the attachment of the rear wheel arch to the bracket on the frame should never exceed the width of the frame bracket, but rather be less.
