X. 2676 - LUCAS BATTERIES.

Answering your DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/M24.2.25, we have not done anything with the more recent Lucas batteries though we tested an earlier one.

Unless this new battery incorporates some particular feature which the makers claim would render the battery more durable than others, we think there would be little to be gained by testing it, because as regards our standard batteries, as you know, we have now got them to the last degree of perfection so far as appears possible in the present state of our knowledge with the ordinary materials.

Then there is the question of dimensions. Our standard dimensions for the 40/50 battery are thus expressed, quoting par.8 of our Specification :-

"Overall dimensions of battery."

"The overall dimensions of the battery are absolutely limited to :-

A length of 20.125"
A width of 6.250"
A height of 10.075"

The available inside dimensions of the battery box are :-
Length 20.250"
Width 6.275"
Height 10.150"
the difference being allowed for packing and wedging."

Unless the battery is to these dimensions we cannot conveniently test it on a car, but it would be necessary, after testing by experiments on the bench a
