To Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} from EFC. X4284 EFC4/T1.9.26. TUNGSTEN CONTACTS. X2894 We have noted the result of Messrs. Johnson Matthey's assay, viz. that the tungsten contact points in both cases of Remy and RR-Reynolds are as nearly alike as can be determined. We have also noted the contents of the letter dated 27th ult. from W.H. Reynolds. The combined result is that the matter still seems to remain somewhat of a mystery. Perhaps before taking the next step it would be as well to take the course partly suggested by W.H. Reynolds of having interchanged, if possible, the tungsten contacts on Remy and RR-Reynold contact breakers for comparison under these interchanged conditions. We are therefore handing to you one complete new set of Remy contact breaker lever and screw, complete with points, and one new complete set of RR-Reynold ditto. We should be glad if you would write to W.H. Reynolds and ask them if it would be possible for them to exchange the contact points between the one set and the other. At the same time we should be pleased if you could obtain two more sets of the Remy pieces, with one additional screw point only, to replace the one which has been cut up by Messrs. Johnson Matthey. They did not utilise the lever. The present Remy set handed to you is the last one available. With reference to their enquiry as to how the 11 pairs are faring, we have a few of these running but they have hardly run long enough to give a definite result. We have, however, collected a good deal of evidence on the RR-Reynold tungsten points and it cannot be said that we have experimentally had any degree of satisfaction from their use. EFC. | ||
