X.3908 Extract from EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/Thn6/H6.7.21. X.3719. RE CARS FOR AMERICA. Item 11. Fumes in Body. The following is an extract of one of Mr. Platford's letters with regard to the above:- "Springfield now testing new breather as already reported. Scheme seems good but not suitable to fix on cars retrospectively, as will not go in position easily when engine and steering in position on chassis. Now receiving threatening complaints re covered bodies, and "Gassing" worse than England, as bad "gasoline" use". Mr. Platford asks if Mr. Hives can standardise anything in the breather line. "Personally I feel that the chief trouble is exhaust fumes - especially noted when retarding and if hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} can recommend induction pipe system which cures loading up - it should simultaneously cure exhaust fumes in body. This with some suitable crankchamber vent should cure the trouble, but I do not feel that either alone will entirely". Mr. Platford states this is one of the American complaints about which BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} must be satisfied. There is also the hot floor boards trouble, Filling up of pedal slots and no cut-out at all, unless special customers desire. What are Derby's comments of this"? EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/Thn. | ||
