Dear Robotham,

Reference your letter of the 29th.June, I should like to suggest coming to Derby to discuss the various problems on Wednesday the 12th., if this will suit you. I will, however, ring you on Tuesday to find out how you are fixed.

I have gone into the question of fitting up the loose-liner engine, and find that a suitable bed and brakey to absorb about 80 B.H.P. at 1500 R.P.M. is available here, and a series of tests on this unit using N2 infusion when standing would serve to confirm the corrosion theory discussed. This, if successful, would be a really valuable and novel contribution to existing knowledge on cylinder wear.

Further tests could also be made later to check the results on various steels obtained with my fluid wear apparatus when modified for abrasive wear.

Since seeing you, Colbran and I have made a lot of further experiments on the high temperature oxidation treatment for manifolds, and I am satisfied that even without resorting to the introduction of 'sausages' into the process, we have something which might be useful to you.

We much appreciated your visit and interest in the work here.

Yours sincerely,
