PHANTOM 11 - PROPELLER SHAFT UNIVERSALS. --------------------------------- Re EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}10/H.18.10.29. As you were informed it was not considered either necessary or desirable to start a campaign on the above units, as whilst there is a possibility that an odd joint may tend to give trouble it will not stall the car nor put it out of service. If the matter was of such a magnitude that we had to seriously consider supplying all Depots with information and spares, then in my opinion it would be the better policy to replace all joints, but I do not think anyone, knowing all the facts, would seriously suggest such a course. Personally, I am far from sure that the increased clearance is an unmixed benefit, nor am I certain that hard steel pins working in hard steel bushes is the best combination, but the Experimental Department have run the combination and satisfied themselves that it is a reasonable compromise, and I am sure the cars they run were on no greater clearance than those we have turned out.
