Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}8/MJ.
14th. August, 1936.

we fit our latest starter motor which was evolved as a result of my American trip and which will help you enormously. Unfortunately, in order to get this on we have to fit a new clutch pit but I think it is worth while.

I would recommend that you use a grade of oil equivalent to the old Mobiloil Arctic in the winter, and Mobiloil B.B. in the summer.

The only trouble you are likely to have using fuel with a high proportion of TEL. is with sparking plugs misfiring on the pick up. Clean the plugs and they will recover.

The exhaust valves have been specially treated by Stelliting to proof them against lead.

The clutch on the car you are buying was specifically designed for easy gear changing. In the hands of good drivers we never have the slightest trouble with it. Incapable drivers, however, who insist on starting in second speed and revving their engine up to 3,000 or so before letting the clutch in occasionally have trouble. I once allowed a garage attendant to park my car in America and in the short time at his disposal he ruined the clutch. On the 4¼ we have modified the design but I think in your case the 3¼ clutch should be perfectly satisfactory. However, I am asking Conduit Street to supply you with a spare clutch centre plate and liner in case you have any trouble.

In winter do not use Alcohol but Ethylene Glycol. If you use too much Alcohol the boiling point of the cooling system will be lowered so much that the hot spot which is water heated will cease to be effective.

I shall be at Coopar Grange, Coopar Angus, Perth, from Sept.7th. to 14th. I believe you are leaving about the 11th. but possibly I may be able to see you.

I hope the weather and the grouse are behaving satisfactorily.

Yours sincerely,
