PHANTOM - SPARE WHEEL CARRIER. 48600 48380

We have revived an old trouble with the spare wheel carrier on the rear of the Phantom.

[Sketch of a spare wheel carrier with a handwritten note: 'SEEMS TO FLEX FROM HERE']

This is a somewhat elusive knock due to the flexing of the rear end of the cantilever frame when :-

(1) Luggage is being carried.
(3) Hartfords have been over tightened or become almost solid with neglect.
(3) Recently the spare wheel carrier at the rear.

On subframe cars we do not get the trouble if the body clearance is correct. So far the carrier has largely been run on chassis with 'subframe' bodies - 7-EX and 8-EX.
We suggest a rubber pad to be fixed at the point where this knock takes place to remove the objection. Apart from the audible noise, there does not seem to be any sensible effect on the passengers.

As the rear wheel carrier has now been standardised we should like this point to receive immediate attention.
