X.9940 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} ) HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ) FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to CJ. 40/50 FOUR WHEEL BRAKES. Dal/M22.11.23. We send herewith a sketch N.sch.1704 - shewing how the existing pieces of the pressure distributing gear may be modified and re-arranged so as to eliminate the self binding. Practically all the existing pieces are used, most of them without modification at all, but the annulus will have to be shifted a little to one side to enable the thicker flange on the L.H. side of the planets to be got in. It will be necessary in this particular case to take care to get the planet cage true, and when the distance pieces have been made as accurate to length as possible, then the new planet cage shafts might be trued up by grinding after assembly. The pull off spring will have to be re-arranged and might be anchored to this new aluminium bracket we shew. "e think you know that Mr. Royce wishes you to provide some slotted levers or levers drilled in more than one place operating the front brakes and 'servo' motor, and by altering the lengths determine the best leverage for the two parts of the gear. It will be noticed that we now wish the sun wheel to float without bearings in the centre and be carried by a bush in the planet cage shaft close to its operating lever. We are sending you in the course of a few days a more finished scheme. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
