GOSHAWK BATTERY BOX. X4378

We have had a case of the battery box splitting round the bottom and the bottom portion falling off. This occurred on a Goshawk-11 which, during the tests in France, had one of the cells leaking acid. The failure occurred when the battery was being put into the box. It is a very difficult single-handed job to drop the battery in squarely and what frequently happens is that the battery binds cross corners and when it is squared up it drops into the box. We consider it is essential that the battery box on the Goshawk should have straps right round.

We are sending the broken portion of the battery box to W.W. as we should like you to see how the wood portion has been affected by sand and stones.
