MODIFIED METHOD OF ENGAGEMENT OF SPECTRECodename for Phantom III STARTER.

Answering your E.11/HP.16.2.35., the new scheme proposed differs considerably from the old Silver Ghost engagement in that the pinion will be allowed to rotate slowly, with the solenoid current, to effect engagement.

The provision of a second heavy current winding on the solenoid will prevent excessive engaging force as immediately the pinion is engaged the main circuit is made and the engaging force is automatically reduced just sufficient to hold the pinion in engagement.

There will only be very small rotational friction on engagement as the torque with this scheme (on the main circuit) will be much smaller than with our teazer winding on the existing scheme.
