X.4215 - BLERIOT CUT-OUT.

This is to confirm our conversation that you will write to Messrs. Bleriot with the purpose of obtaining another cut-out from them similar to the original sample submitted to us and to the second one obtained.

The first one was sent to Mr. Royce for his inspection,- the second one has been fitted to a car.

The six we have received from them with black finish since they had our specification of test appear to differ from the original sample in the following respects :-

(N.B. These small differences are based on the examination of only one of these six, of which the seal appeared to be broken.

(1) The main spring is of a different finish, shape and size, giving a stronger control.

(2) The amount of winding, i.e. size of the coil, is now smaller and the resistances greater.

(3) The loose auxiliary carbon contact is of too soft material and is crumbling away.

(4) The main air gap appears to be a little smaller.

Apart from the above, however, so far as we have gone, we do not find the operation to be, as it was supposed to be, according to our specification, or it may be that they have misread our specification. We, however, would prefer to leave over giving exact results of test of these six cut-outs until we have been able to properly complete this.
