X. 7080. Re. 58-GN. Springing. Replying to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}21/E10.10.30. We should much prefer to have 58-GN. car at Derby to change the springs because we ourselves are seeking information and we should like to appreciate the effects of any change and alteration that we make. We should also like to suggest that when 58-GN. car comes to Derby we should like to fit to that car a carburetter with air silencer. We have recently standardised this carburetter and the point has arisen that we have to compromise between silence and maximum power. If we are prepared to sacrifice three horse-power at 60 M.P.H. (the effect of this cannot be measured on the road),. we can reduce the general engine noise considerably. An experimental car is going down to Brooklands tomorrow in order to measure the difference in performance with the silence carburetter and the standard one, but as it is a question of compromise we should like to have your views.
