English Made Batteries.

As mentioned in our conversation yesterday, and in reply to your memo of March 21: we are unable as yet to express an opinion as to the period of useful service of an English battery of the type supplied in the Phantom II, because none of these cars are sufficiently old.

The only comment we can make at the present time is that they are very unsatisfactory from the Maintenance standpoint. We have already had four instances of the cases cracking and causing leakage. Being entirely special in design, it is necessary to import all replacement batteries, which is both inconvenient and expensive.

We have no reason to believe that the English batteries fitted to earlier cars are any more satisfactory than similar American batteries.

The replacement of a battery by reason of natural deteriora-tion is taken as a matter of course after a period of two years and we do not recall any instances of imported batteries having an unusually long life.
