Handwritten: 1206 Handwritten: Re EW1428 2nd December, 1937. Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Experimental Department, DERBY. Dear Sirs, FOR THE ATTENTION OF MR. MATTHEWS. We are in receipt of an enquiry which has been circulated by your Purchase Department for Piston Rings to EW.1536, these being the special poundage rings which were developed at your request for the 3.5" bore engine. The physical characteristics shown on the drawing are correct, but the material called for is cast iron to your specification 212. This material will not give the poundages, etc., called for without modification to the physical dimensions of the ring, and you will remember that in order to get what was wanted, they had to be made in Thermocrom or DTD.233. To avoid confusion in the future, therefore, we would suggest that the drawing be modified in this respect, and no doubt you will use your good offices to have this done. Yours faithfully, FOR THE LIGHT PRODUCTION COMPANY LTD. H.N. Brooks. GENERAL MANAGER. | ||
