R.R. 493A (50H) (D.B. 175 25-9-24) J.H.D. EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. Expl. No. REF Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG2. 7. 25. C To CJ. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 'W' SERIES. 48770 The alterations on 'W' series consist of :- (1) Wider and higher dashboard. (2) Wider and higher radiator. As, however, the radiator tubes have been made less in depth, the area of the radiator on 'W' series will be practically the same as 'V' series. (3) New shape autovac tank. (4) The radiator filler cap has been modified slightly. (5) Shutters are enclosed in the radiator. (6) Bonnet fasteners - modified design. (7) Controls - linkage for operating radiator shutters modified. So far these parts have not been tested on the road. We are preparing a car fitted with these parts for running 10,000 miles in France, apart from the car for Mr. Royce. The Works have to produce 350 cars of the 'V' series type - the 10,000 miles on the 'W' series chassis will be completed before any of the 'W' series cars are completed by the Works although they will be working on the material. We do not anticipate the new parts on 'W' series will give any trouble but we think that the chassis should be examined by Sales as soon as possible because it may be considered the new parts have altered the appearance of the car. It is for this reason we have suggested bringing the chassis to London next week, after it has been seen and examined by R.{Sir Henry Royce} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
