HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to - BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X634 E3/M13.131 re. ENGINE MOUNTING. X.5005. X.634. Referring to HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}/MU12131., we have just finished re-scheming the part of the engine mounting for the improved 25HP. chassis which takes the torque of the engine, and owing to the simpler nature of its duties we have been able to cut out a number of features, and reduce the cost, we think, considerably. These feet will however be called upon to support the engine in its proper position in the event of the clutch or gearbox being dismantled, for which purpose it would be necessary to remove the tail bearing of the unit, and also they will be called upon to provide some triangulation for the frame in the plan view, as we can hardly leave the long bay containing the power unit without some support of this nature. With regard to the question of the cups, in one of our designs these are formed integrally with an aluminium bracket, but we do not see that this is much of a disadvantage as once the proportions of the rubber blocks have been fixed experimentally it should not be necessary to dismantle them. We propose to provide aluminium packing washers to get the right dimension endways for the rubber blocks as we wish the bolt to be pulled up tightly on the distance tube.
