Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}2/MJ.12.1.33.

We have received your report of the 8th.inst.

Carburetter.

The point we are very anxious to know about this is how you explain that the car appeared to be free from this trouble before it left Derby, and now you report that it is very bad. We want you to try and investigate and give us a reason.

It may be due to the change of petrol, or it may be that you will say that it was bad from the time you left Derby. As we have had a previous case of a carburetter getting worse it is essential that we find out all about it.

We are not particularly anxious for you to fit a spring under the air valve. We are very much more anxious to try and find out what is the cause, and any work you can do in conjunction with this will be very helpful.

There is a difference of opinion as regards the position of the air valve when it occurs. Some tests have shewn that it occurs before the air valve has lifted. Any opportunity you have therefore for investigating this trouble will be of assistance. If necessary you can borrow some help from Sevres.
