324 To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.1/JH.6.3.37. DRIVE FOR CADILLAC FAN ON P.III. As a result of the tests carried out on the fan rig you built for us recently, we find that a single belt to British Goodrich, mould No.242 is satisfactory for driving the Cadillac five blade fan at the standard speed ratio of .9/1. We are shortly carrying out cooling tests at Brooklands and wish to test the Cadillac fan with the standard speed ratio and with the higher speed ratio (1.125/1). We already have the necessary pulleys for the high speed ratio. Will you please have a pair of pulleys made to drive the Cadillac fan at the low speed ratio with a 242 mould belt. Attached sheet gives details of the pulleys required. The driven pulley should be fitted to a standard hub assembly on which the Cadillac five bladed fan (R.R.copy) should be mounted. Will you also please fit up the high speed twin belt pulleys which we already have so that they can be fitted to a car - i.e. fit the crankshaft hose adaptor (Ex.26231) to the driver (Ex.25227) and a standard spindle assembly to the driven pulley (Ex.26000). We shall then be able to interchange the Cadillac blade set between the two hubs. A starting handle support bracket of the type fitted to 34-EX for Kenya will also be required with these drivers. We should like these parts as soon as possible, as after our Brooklandstests we wish to forward the single belt scheme to GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} in France for fitting to 35-EX.
