Miss Rees. 6026 CONTRACTORS TO ADMIRALTY, WAR OFFICE & AIR MINISTRY S. Smith & Sons (Motor Accessories) Ltd CRICKLEWOOD WORKS LONDON, N.W. 2 SALES DIRECTOR'S OFFICE. Please quote our reference: S.1. 14th. February, 1938. W.A. Robotham, Esq., Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. RC{R. Childs} Please return to Adm Dear Mr. Robotham, Further in reference to the Rev. Counter which was found to contain a loose broken screw when it was opened, Messrs. A.T. Speedometer Co. report they are of the opinion that the broken screw head in question is similar to that used for holding the clock stem in position on the clock movement. It is difficult to understand the presence of this and they can only conclude that it must have jumped into the instrument from the operative's position next along the bench, without it being observed, and attached itself, being steel, to the magnet in a position, which for the three or four months that the instrument has been in service, kept it out of harms way. It must have then gradually vibrated down to the position where it jammed the spindle. Needless to say, under the circumstances, they are taking special precautions by covering each instrument with a glass plate in future when any of these instruments are lying on the bench, in order to obviate the risk of foreign matter accidentally finding its way inside the instrument between assembly and final bezel and glass fitting. Regretting that you should have been troubled. Sincerely yours, Charles W. Nichols | ||
