Report on Experiment No.472
Valve Springs tempered in oil bath
at Derby.

These springs ran 100 hours at 2000 engine revs. with no breakages.

We then ran them at 2200 engine revs., the valves were just not leaving their seats. After 10 hours of this No.7 spring broke. They ran for a further 30 hours with no more breakages.

On Mr Radley's Austrian Trials car they had 3 valve springs break going from London to Vienna, it must have been the high engine speeds across France that broke them.

There are a number of other makes of valve springs to test yet.
