Watford Sleeveless Magneto.

Upon receipt of yours EFC4/T31.1.27 we wrote Sons Ltd. and repeated R's remarks. We are now in receipt of their reply dated 8th inst. as follows:-

"We thank you for your letter of the 1st inst. on
"the subject of a magneto without sleeve and with a
"larger armature, laminated pole shoes and bakelite
"gears.

"We have carried out experiments with such a
"magneto and our Mr.North submitted to you an output
"curve over a range of 60° which we understand was
"satisfactory. We are making up further machines
"embodying all the points mentioned and hope to be able
"to submit a sample machine very shortly.

"With regard to the question of the contact breaker
"mentioned by your Engineer-in-Chief, Mr.F.H.Royce, we
"beg to say that the contact breaker with Duralumin
"lever which was seen by Mr.Royce is our very latest
"design and is the one which is being regularly used on
"the model E.O.6 magnetos which we are supplying.

"With regard to the question of durability of
"platinum points we beg to say that the points we use
"are made from an alloy of 25% iridium and 75% platinum
"which we believe to be the most durable material for
"this purpose but we do not think any material which
"is electrically suitable for this purpose will last
"the life of a Rolls Royce car."
