FAULTY FOOT BRAKES. X3459 X3422 We are receiving complaints of foot brakes developing ineffective. This ineffectiveness we find is due to the condition the Ferodo liners get into after the car has been in service for 3,000 or 4,000 miles. A hard polished skin is formed and if this skin is removed the brakes are quite satisfactory, but do not last very long before they again become defective and the same shiny skin is formed. We have tried unborded material but this appears to give the same results. We have also tried softening the material for brake drums, but this has not cured the ill effect. I am returning to you samples of liners which have the fault referred to above and shall be glad to hear from you what can be done in order to overcome this trouble. Also is it possible for Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} to take the matter up with the makers, and can they suggest any action which can be taken, or any improvement in material which can be used to overcome the trouble. We shall be glad if this can be treated as a very important matter, as Sales Department are complaining bitterly about this defect being a general complaint, and is a feature which will no doubt come forward at the next Midland Hotel meeting.
