The tappet gear on 9-B-V is still noisy when starting up from cold. It makes such a clatter that the wearing parts must be suffering. One assumes that the clatter must be due to some portion of the valve train.

Tests should be carried out in the Cold Chamber applying an oil supply to the various portions of the tappet push rod and rocker until the source of the trouble is discovered. We should then like to decide what measures should be taken to put matters right. It is just possible that a relief valve, which allows the oil pressure to increase considerably when the oil is cold, may do the trick.
