object in view we are perservering with induction pipe tests on the engine and blower rig and shall endeavour to get an improved pipe before the winter weather ceases so that we may have the opportunity of proving it in flight on the Ill F.{Mr Friese}

SUMMARY.

The symptoms indicate that the trouble is a combination of very bad distribution at low air temperatures and diffuser freezing.

The latest induction pipe we have and the redistributer in the full supercharged engine do not overcome the trouble at very low temperatures.

The immediate relief to existing engines would appear to be hot air - either by inside air intakes or a small radiator in the intake pipe.

We think we should be in touch with the technical staff at Martlesham as much as possible on the various engine problems as it is very helpful to talk these matters over with the actual pilots who make the tests. Sq/Ldr. Mc Kenna - who is the Chief Engineer - said he would always be pleased to help us and talk these matters over if we would visit him. The journey is only about one hour from Tollerton and enables us to fit in when they are doing their frlight tests and so saves considerable loss in time and delay of the job.
