To BY {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} /C. from EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} X4338 EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 6/T3.7.24. X.4338 - 20 HP. CHASSIS EXPERIMENTS. Reference BY {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} /RD5/ML27.6.24:- STARTER SWITCH. Positive release and better location of contact. This was instructed by BY {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} /RD5/ML7.1.24. as a result of a report from this Dept. of an examination of one or two standard switches borrowed by us for the purpose of making up the specification of production test. It was mentioned at the time that three experimental switches with reduced gauge of spring fingers had run respectively, without any trouble, mileages of 11,562, 4167, and 4374. New switches with modified plungers were also to contain this feature of the reduced gauge of fingers. One such switch was made up and submitted to BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} , after test, and it was pointed out by his Dept. that the contact maker D.51229 should be floating on its bush and not rigid as on the standard switches. This feature was corrected and the switch again submitted to BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} , but unfortunately at this point the switch was lost. Two similar switches have been instructed to be made for test on experimental cars, but at the time of writing these are not yet ready. Meanwhile one of the switches with reduced gauge of spring fingers has covered more than 15,000 miles on chassis 6-GII. Therefore this feature can be subjected to a standardisation sheet if thought desirable, without waiting for the positive release and better location. CONDENSER. - New connections to LeC.1745.
