X.607. To D/BP. from EFC. EFC1/T10.6.21. X.607 - RE EXIDE BATTERIES.- MESSRS. GROSE LTD. Referring to your D/BP23/CW 7.6.21 and D/BP6/CW9.6.21, we have obtained and examined this cell and find that the only fault is the cracked ebonite container. We would like it to be realised that we ourselves, including the Test Dept., have never had a case of a cracked ebonite cell and container which has been definitely due to internal causes, and this being the case we think it is safe to put down all such"crackages" to mishandling at some time or other. The difficulty every time is as to where the mishandling has occurred, so that before giving an opinion as to whether we should replace this cell free of charge we consider that it should be taken up with the customer to state more exactly how this cell came to be faulty. We feel that so far as this Dept. is concerned it is not a case for our consideration as we have no definite proof that this is due to defective design and we know that this does not occur in ordinary every day treatment of batteries, provided ordinary care is taken in the handling.
